Jason’s Job

I got an email from my husband today about what he is working on today… Best Job Ever!

Did I mention that I'm writing a song about dancing donuts?  It's in 3 parts.  So far a donut goes to a rock concert and gets eaten, and then in part 2 a donut named Konut invents a dance called the Hot Air Balloon (disco style) and gets eaten.  Still to come: a donut pop star gets recognized on a plane and then kicked out.  While in flight.

YES!

YES is right!  I can’t wait to hear this one!

Pictures!

Hi!

OK. That wasn't very nice - a kind of tease... there are pictures in this post, but they are neither of our wedding nor of our honeymoon!

Instead, the are of my escapades of the day...

You may recall 6 and some years ago when this last happened... well, I've done it again!

DURING:

AFTER !! :

Woo hoo!

It feels good to have let go of those 13 inches... and it feels good that my hair is going to better use with Locks of Love.

Love to you all,
~Gretchen

Wedding Pictures! Got 'Em!

Hi!

We have our wedding photos! There are more than 900 of them... so we are going through them first.

We will get them down to a more reasonable number and then send out a link.

Please be patient with us - there are so many!

Love,
Gretchen & Jason

Wedding Photo Slideshow

Hi,

We just got an initial slideshow of some wedding photos from our photographer Monika!

These are NOT the photos we've picked, none of them are retouched, and not everyone is in them. It is a quick slideshow that Monika chooses pictures for and puts together for her clients and as a demo for herself. Later on we will have a customized website with all the pictures of everyone to share with you, but we wanted to show you this too.

http://www.monikalozinskalee.com/Gretchen_and_Jason

If you click the arrow button on the bottom right of the slideshow, you can access other controls, including seeing the pictures as a gallery instead.

Enjoy!

Hotel Reminder!

A reminder for our out-of-town guests: If you'd like a room in our hotel block at The Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza, you should book it right away if you haven't already. They are holding the block until May 1, at which time they release the rooms for general sale. You can still get a room after that date based on availability. To reserve, call (800) 972-2494; it's under the Helmreich-Sperling wedding. If you have hotel problems, let us know and we should be able to figure it out. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Salvage One to the Holiday Inn (Mart Plaza)
OK. It may seem like you don't need directions for getting from the reception back to the hotel ... but there are many one-way streets in the area around Salvage One as well as around the hotel ... so just in case you do need directions, here they are:
Leave Salvage One and head east on Hubbard
Turn left (north) on Ashland Ave
In 500 feet, turn right (east) on Grand Ave
In 1 ½ miles, turn right (south) on Wells St
At Kinzie, you will head under the El tracks, staying on Wells.
Stay to the right and turn right at Merchandise Mart Plaza.
If you have crossed the river, you have gone too far!
Take Merchandise Mart Plaza straight across Orleans into the parking structure.

Click here to view directions with a larger map
(If you crossed the river, then just turn right on Wacker Drive, then right on Orleans St. The Holiday Inn will be on your left just across the river. The parking structure entrance is right on the river.)

No Car?
For those of you who will be without a car, the hotel and Salvage One are a quick, cheap cab ride away from each other.

We're delinquent

So, um....we're a little behind in our wedding blogging. Sorry about that. However, that's because we are NOT so behind in our real, live wedding planning! Here's a few details to catch you up:

-We have a caterer! We found a great guy who we really like. We had a tasting with a couple we're friends with, and the food is fantastic. No, really. Like "save room because there's more delicious stuff coming" fantastic.

-We have a rabbi! After getting some recommendations of rabbis willing to do less-traditional interfaith services, we met with a few, and liked two of them a lot. We went back and forth over the particulars, and chose the one we meshed with more. He is from a downtown congregation that is largely made up of interfaith couples, and he really puts us at ease with our ceremony planning.

-We have music! Our friend Mike will be the DJ for the wedding. He is a wizard of all things related to sound and video. He's won several Jeff awards (Chicago's Tony award) for sound, video, and projection design, and he's DJ'ed most Barrel of Monkey weddings. We're really glad he's available to be a part of our day.

-We have invitations! We became invitation experts in a very short time, largely thanks to an independent shop owner in Evanston, who showed us the ropes. Because she only carried certain companies' products, we ended up not purchasing through her. But we combined elements of various invitations we liked and had them made. Gretchen's brother Paul is a graphic designer, and he took our idea and ran with it. We then had another small shop print everything up for us. We're really happy with how they turned out, and they should be getting to you in the very near future!

See? I told you we've been working on it! Also in the works or done: the rings, our clothes for the big day, honeymoon plans, ceremony particulars... Now be honest: raise your hand if you read this entry's title and thought it either referred to us breaking laws and being thrown into "juvie", circa "West Side Story", OR not paying our library fines in a timely manner. OK - the two of you with your hands up are uninvited. Everyone else, thanks for checking back to see if this blog is still among the living. Gretchen and I thank you.

Have You Booked Your Hotel Yet?

We know it feels really early, but with the convention in town and the limited number of rooms we have in our block, we strongly encourage you to book your hotel as soon as possible.

We have a block of rooms reserved at the Holiday Inn, Mart Plaza (Riverview).

You may make your reservation by calling: (800) 972-2494

The rate is $169.00 per night before taxes and fees.

We have rooms reserved on Friday and Saturday night, both King rooms and Double rooms.
We have a limited number of rooms available, so please make your reservation early.
Please note, if our block fills up, the hotel will still honor the $169.00 per night rate as long as other rooms are available. If you have a problem booking the room, please let us know - we should be able to fix it for you.

Location, location, location!

I realized recently that we haven't posted the location of the wedding! While the ceremony's location is still TBD, the reception will be at Salvage One, 1840 W. Hubbard in Chicago. (The ceremony will be in the same neighborhood.) This is the only place that Gretchen and I walked in and liked everything about it. A lot. You can check it out at http://www.salvageone.com. The space is a constantly changing, wood-and-brick loft. They buy and sell different architectural elements, and also create amazing art pieces, furniture, and installations from them. We're very excited to be having our reception here, and I think you'll really like seeing what's there.

-Jason
